asembl (not so) live: comedy by teleconference #4
So, quarantine. Fun times. Especially for those of us that like to go out (we're normally a company that helps people find cool stuff to do and gather groups to to it with; check out our app here). Obviously, much bigger fish to fry than boredom (and thanks enormously to everyone providing essential services during this time). But still, it's boring.
We're here to help with that. With comedy. That's as close to a live show as we can make it (except it's BYOB; yeah!). We've done a few of these and they're great.
Here's how it works:
- Get Zoom here (it's super simple to use and free).
- Hit the "Join the show" button below at 8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 23 to join. You can RSVP and add to your calendar here or on Facebook (shudder).
- Turn on your microphone and/or camera so we can hear everybody laugh and feel together (also: behave).
- Our amazing comedians do 10 minute sets each.
- You laugh your tuchus off.
- Donate. We're not putting up a paywall since we want everyone to easily join but we'd appreciate your donating $5 (or more!). Everybody's gigs went poof so a bit of cash would be highly appreciated.
On to the talent. First up is Ahmed Bharoocha.
Conan, Colbert and Comedy Central veteran Ahmed Bharoocha is half Irish Catholic,
half Pakistani-Indian-Burmese-Muslim, and wholly a master of punctuating striking
social commentary with high-energy theatrics. You may have seen him on Adult Swim’s
absurd comedy Dream Corp LLC as the drug addled scatterbrained Nurse Ahmed. Or
perhaps you recognized him as one third of the viral sketch group Dead Kevin as seen on
Comedy Central or Funny or Die.
Ahmed first entered the comedy world as a dishwasher in a comedy club in Providence RI. After putting down the dishes and picking up the mic he quickly became a favorite in the neighboring Boston comedy scene and was regular at The Comedy Studio in Harvard Square. From there Ahmed has gone on to tour comedy clubs all around the country and has performed in festivals including Just For Laughs in Montreal, the Moontower Comedy Festival, Riot L.A., the Great American Comedy Festival and Scotland’s Glasgow International Comedy Festival. He now lives in Los Angeles and is working as an actor in film and television. Most recently he can be seen in the indie comedy feature Golden Arm that made its world premier at the South By
Southwest Film Festival in Austin TX.
Next up: Collin Chamberlin.
Collin is a New York based comedian who’s been entertaining audiences for years. His conversational delivery and timing make you feel like you’re talking to a friend. Collin tours nationally for the Funny Bones, Improvs, and Heliums. He’ll perform anywhere though, as long as there’s gas money and a microphone. Just ask him about the high school prom he ruined. He’s shared the stage with some of the best comedians working, including SNL’s Kenan Thompson. Collin even had an onstage role with Steve Martin and Martin Short!
Then, Raanan Hershberg.
Raanan is a loud, neurotic Jew from Louisville, KY. He recently made his national television debut on The Late Late Show with James Corden (you can watch here). In 2017, he was a finalist in StandUp NBC and The Laughing Skull Festival in Atlanta, GA. In 2018, he was a finalist in the Boston Comedy Festival. He regularly opens for Kathleen Madigan in sold out theaters across the country. His first album Self-Helpless climbed all the way to the top of the iTunes Comedy Charts.
His comedy has been featured on “Laughs” on FOX and is regularly played on Sirius XM. He is the founder of Character Assassination, a popular fictional roast series that started in Louisville and has now branched out to The Laugh Factory in Chicago and The Creek and the Cave in New York City, and was selected to be a part of TBS’s The New York Comedy Festival this year. He recently premiered his latest solo show OFF THE GRID in the New York International Fringe Festival, which was called ‘One of the best one-man shows you are likely to see anywhere’ by Hy Bender in bestnewyorkcomedy.com (you can read the full review here). His new album 'Downhill Ever Since' will be available everywhere you listen to music on February 4th. He currently resides in New York City.
